The students are pretty much satisfied with the teaching staff as all are well qualified and apart from a few, their approach towards teaching is different ad students tend to like it. All the teachers are very sincere at their work, and are absolutely approachable at any time of the day. Being an autonomous university, when students feel the need of inclusion of a module / subject in their course, they are flexible to changes, and adapt to courses that are in trend. Also, more importantly the autonomy they enjoy has never been misused and the learning of a student is a focus. At times when there had been a crunch in the number of faculty members, visiting faculties from the industry and freelancers are invited too. Some visiting faculties have an industry experience of about 20-30 years under their belt. But there are more permanent faculties now than before. Lecture Schedules are planned for every week, and are followed religiously.

The institute was formerly known as the institute of Petroleum Management in 2006, is now the School of Petroleum Management under the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University. Beginning with offering just the management course; the institute went on to become a private university just recently in 2007. The campus is well planned with separate buildings for the various school; School of Petroleum Technology (SPT), School of Technology (SOT), School of Liberal studies, School of Petroleum Management, School of Solar Energy & School of Nuclear Energy. The buildings look very modern with wide grass lawns all over adding to the serenity. Classes are spacious, comfortable and completely air conditioned, equipped with projector to assist the teacher. The entire campus is Wifi enabled, and connectivity on laptop is good, although people tend to face issues using the same on mobile phones. The speed is decent, but when not shared by many obviously faster, with restrictions on usage of some websites. The library is a good place to sit and study, and is resourceful too. SPT, SOT and SPM are the 3 libraries that students can make use of. They have a provision of I mega watt power backup power plant. An SBI Bank ATM takes care of the banking needs of the students on campus.

A 6 week Industry Internship is compulsory as defined by the syllabus, and the maximum it can go to is 3 months. Companies visit the campus for summer internships too, but students are free to approach other companies that they wish to. At one internship a student got paid Rs.80,000 a month during internship. Since PDPU as created a big brand value in a very short span of time, particularly in a niche market and international collaborations also work in favour of the students. And with Alumni penetrating in the sector, it can only improve from here on.

Located off the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Highway, the road leading to the campus is itself called PDPU Road. Getting to the college from the Airport or the Railway stations can be a little painful experience as you might end up paying exorbitantly every time you travel. Located right beside the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), and the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) on the other side, the campus is located 3 Kms off the main road, and hence is pretty much cut-out from the activities of the city but is easy to locate with the convenient sign boards on the highway to guide you. But being a completely residential course you would never have to worry about daily travel to get to the college.

The hostels provided by the institute are decent, and rooms work out on twin sharing basis. With common bathrooms, which need some attention now. The girls’ hostel is a separate block, but is in the campus itself. The cleanliness issues need to addresses as the staff allotted for house-keeping is falling short. students don’t find the facilities worth the amount they pay. Most are of the opinion that the cost is just too high. The hostel fees do not include Laundry and Food. For the food, is a very well managed canteen/mess.

The canteen area is good, and the space large. With LCD televisions around for entertainment while you satisfy your hunger. You get unlimited meals and breakfasts – nutritious & sumptuous. With a big menu on table, and wide variety which will ensure you would not get really bored with canteen food (unlike most other hostel messes). It feeds a thousand odd students every single day, and is certainly managed very well. Non-veg food is also served at the canteen, which might bring happiness to a lot of souls reading this. Although some might find the food slightly oily, but they get used to it with time.

6 Kms away from the campus is Infocity (An IT Hub) where you can find all the franchisee stores, subways, macs, and what not! And apart from that, frankly there is nothing much around in the city where you can hangout. People go to malls in and around Ahmedabad at times too. But basically the place is located such that it only discourages you to camp out. A visit to Infocity would cost at least Rs.150 for the travel. The campus lawns are popular and so are the food stalls where people can just sit and chill at leisure.

The SPM houses only about a 130 odd students every year, with 120 of both the year MBA students combined and 10 doing the executive MBA course. The crowd is from varied academic backgrounds, but most are with obvious reasons Engineers. And getting through for the students of SOT is not as difficult as it might be for others. Yet people from all over the country come over here, and mix very well. Mainly during project and assignment times is when the bonding happens and everyone contributes their part and get to know people. Life here can get stressful in the beginning with trimester pattern coming in, and exams back to back, but with time, everyone gets used to and comfortable.

The college has provided for recreational facilities too, but nothing much really appealing about it, and most of the students would say that the facilities are hardly maintained. The gymnasium is good, but falls short for the number of students the campus hosts, and it tends to get crowded at times – and is still considered the best part of the college, and certainly has scope for improvement there too.

The University is very particular about discipline when it comes to classroom learning, and would not want to tolerate anyone skipping lectures. 85% is the bare minimum you need to maintain over the semester else you are disqualified from the semester exam. Numerically this boils down to just 2/10 lectures can be un-attended. This you would want to avoid! At 3 lectures missed, you start losing grades. At 5 you are awarded an ‘F’ grade and that you would want to avoid!

The MBA program offered here is highly specialized for the Petroleum, and power sectors, so a background in Engineering is desirable, and better for profile specific industry executives. Enter the domain only when you are sure about studying about it. Everything else will be managed well here.

In this area the college does not lag behind, and provides a fair amount of exposure with people from relevant areas called at an average once in every 2 weeks. The lectures are interesting, and some speakers talk about personal experiences which is even more gripping. Seminars / Conclaves are conducted where the top level management and industry people are invited to discuss over topics. Recent events include Oil & Gas Conclave, Power Conclave, and turn out to be very knowledgeable and informing sessions.
The college also conducts Industrial visits and in all around 7-8 IV’s are conducted during the entire course. It’s a learning process, and also a break from the routine. To make sure the seriousness of the IV’s students are asked to make reports on their visits respectively.
