The faculty is a blend of professionals from the industry with who have spent a decent time of their careers in the industry, and senior professors who are very experienced teachers. In the words of a student, “some professors are so good, that we even take the stressful work load from those with a smile on our faces.” That’s may be because they realize that it’s for their own good. People spend sleepless nights during the crunch times ad still don’t complain. So basically the teaching and the faculties are good.

All the classes are completely air conditioned, spacious and very comfortable. A separate new building for PGDM is also under construction and should by the time next batch begins in 2013. The lecture theatres have a capacity of 200 students, and there are only a few typical classroom type classes, most are theatres. Seminars conducted by CEOs’ and MDs’ happen in the Auditorium which looks very well designed. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled, and everything on the internet is accessible without any restrictions. The password protected setup ensures outsiders can’t use the facility but is hassle free for the in-mates. The library is resourceful and you get all kinds of books related to the academic course, and beyond the scope of syllabus too. The college has subscription to magazines also which students make frequent use of. The library and the canteen are a part of the same block. The library is one the top level and canteen on the ground level.

The placements observed here are more inclining towards Marketing, although finance is not bad too. The college tries to invite companies to campus, but if that doesn’t work out, college can work it out with walk-in combined interviews at a campus that company is visiting. Average pay here would be about 4 to 4.5 Lakh Rupees a year. Though some student also managed a pre-placement offer of Rs.6,00,000 a year. To name a few companies that have recruited students from here; Apollo Munich from the Insurance sector, Pepsico from the F&B, there’s Axis Bank and Adani Group also have recruited students.

Located 3 Kms off the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway in a village called Uvarsad. Though the location is not very convenient to reach, students consider it perfect to cut off from the hustle and bustle of a busy city. The environment is also very conducive for a peaceful life and learning. The campus is green, and so are the surroundings. This increases the transportation costs significantly, and to add to it, the frequency of the buses is poor too. But now that the area is becoming an SEZ, students expect development around the area thus alleviate their pains. The local-ites travel by their own vehicles, but most students here are residential and stay at the college hostels. Students living at the hostels, bungalows that college rents out to students, and other privately rented Paying Guest bungalows are oblivious to the location, and like it anyway.

The hostel blocks; girls and boys are opposite each other, with the canteen block in the middle after the hostels. Students consider hostels here, better than hostels of most other colleges around. Rooms are on twin sharing basis, and have attached bathrooms. But the only problem with the existing hostel is the capacity. Hence a new hostel building is also under construction, which might have common toilets. House-keeping staff is nice ad co-operative and loves to keep the premise clean. The hostel-ites have the canteen/mess have to pay extra charges for A/C rooms. The food and laundry costs extra go on to another per month. You have to pay extra charges for unlimited meals and breakfasts at the mess & and canteen. These meals are good, and more importantly clean and hygienic. To encounter the issue of capacity at the hostels, the college provides Bungalows that students can rent around, or manage to find their own paying guests around. Sundays means cricket or badminton and time flies by very fast. And at times there’s not really any time left for time pass. But if you’re living in the hostel, you need to follow certain time restrictions; be in the campus by 10 PM, and in the hostel by 11PM. 11 PM to 5:30 AM the hostel remain locked. Every night all the students have to sign their presence in the register. In case you want to take a leave, you need to apply before hand, and for girls, a fax from their houses stating the reason is also needed.

The canteen as mentioned earlier doubles up as the hostel mess too. There is no non-vegetarian food served in the canteen, nor is it allowed anywhere in the campus / hostel rooms too. Canteen is spacious, clean and hygienic. The meals in the canteens are also good, with Thali is affordable and absolutely worth. For those who aren’t used to spicy food, might take time to adjust. There is more variety at the canteen apart from the fixed meal menus.

6 Kms away from the campus is Infocity (An IT Hub) where you can find all the franchisee stores, subways, macs, and what not! And apart from that, frankly there is nothing much around in the city where you can hangout. People go to malls in and around Ahmedabad at times too, the Himalaya Mall, there’s Alpha Mall. But basically the place is located such that it only discourages you to camp out. A visit to Infocity would cost at least Rs.150 for the travel.

Talking about the educational backgrounds of the students, most here are Commerce graduates, but people from all over the country come here. So you can observe people from diverse cultures, and with diverse style and mannerisms, but all mix well. Seniors are helpful and very enjoyable to be around with. Active when it comes to participation in class activities, and group projects alike. And students are grown enough to not stoop to something as cheap as ragging.
Many seniors in the current batch are from UP, and the major part also hails from the North East India, and Kolkata. There are students from Bangalore, Kerala; and there are some from North Gujarat and Rajasthan. Students from Mumbai are the most open and compatible with everyone. But even otherwise there are no issues among students whatsoever. The ratio of boys to girls is 70:30, and the girls and guys interact with each other and gel well. Students are very enthusiastic about celebrations of festivals and events, and there is hardly any event that sees poor participation from the students.

Keeping in mind that this would certainly not be among the premier institutes of the country, don’t come here with massive expectations. Instead come here to enjoy the activities which creatively keep you involved is good. The overall experience is okay, as the crowd is a little compromised. Considering ROI is not so good, but what’s more important is that the college manages to get visiting faculties from IIM, Nirma University and MICA. And the current seniors are happy for the current batch as they see things change. So don’t expect too much before coming here. Be realistic and work hard here, you’ll be happy with what you take back.

Now with the teaching and other departments in place, the least they can expect from you is to attend lectures, and show the willingness to learn. But in any case, willingly or forcefully you have to be present for 85% of the lectures; else you can see direct degradation of grades. Below 50% you would be barred from appearing for the exams. Although there has not been any case where such a harsh action was taken, because most students attend ad maintain their attendance above 85%. But if you’re still drifting away from the required attendance, warnings are given. So don’t neglect these warnings as it could cost you dearly. The college runs a website www.eduberry.in which is a portal where students can check their attendance online, get latest campus news and updates, assignments, and share notes with people.

On a regular basis, persons from the top level management of various companies visit the campus to take seminars about areas in management. Apart from the seminars, students run their own ‘clubs’ like Music, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource, Sports Club etc. and conduct events which the likeminded people are interested in, and others can also be a part of. Different clubs conduct their activities all round the year, and this keeps the students involved and learn things that are beyond the prescribed syllabus. One notable event that students enjoyed was re-launching ‘Kismi bar’ toffee adnd to design a marketing strategy for it.
