The Computer department staff is pretty good. Students love their lecturers and the style of teaching. They’re thoroughly knowledgeable though not very experienced. Contrary to this, teachers at the department of Mechanical and Electronics engineering are way experienced. Professors are not very young and students sometimes find a generation gap with them, thus the rapport ain’t that great. Overall, the faculty is decent and conducts lectures in English and Hindi both.

The four storey stereotype red brick building of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Jamia Millia Islamia University has a pretty ancient, Mughal look, and looks beautiful at the first impression. The air conditioned classrooms are average while the washrooms are dirty most of the times. Library is air conditioned and loads of books of various departments within engineering are provided, though they’re not available for most of the subjects. The wi-fi enabled engineering building has a dummy yet huge aircraft on the backside facing the main road. The aircraft is certainly a good attraction for everyone within and outside the campus.

Placements for Mechanical, Computer and Electrical students are pretty good and almost 100% at Jamia Millia Islamia University. Known for its good placements in the city of Delhi, well known companies like L&T, Adobe, Microsoft, Siemens, Samsung and many more are seen in the Jamia campus during the placement season. The average salary is around Rs 3-4 lakhs per annum though the highest has been Rs. 9 lakhs per annum.

Jamia Millia Islamia University is located in Jamia Nagar (yes, as the name suggests) in South Delhi and is pretty famous and well known to the localities. Hundreds of blue sign boards on the main road indicate Jamia Millia all the time, thus finding the university is NEVER a problem. The university is easily accessible by DTC buses which have an amazing frequency. The nearest metro stations are Kalkaji Mandir and Nehru Place on the violet line though they’re roughly at a distance of 5 kilometres from the college. Thanks to the auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws which makes travelling less cumbersome, though one has to spend a good lofty amount to reach the college. The Faculty of Engineering and Technology is the first building in the campus and is a minute away from the main gate of the campus.

There are multiple canteens and food joints in the campus and students find the Youth Café and Maggie Point the best. The common canteen is cheap in terms of food quality and cost but shouldn’t be preferred apart from tea and coffee. The main canteen serves good Chole Bhature and Biryani though the taste is inconsistent sometimes. Space in the canteen is never a problem as most of them prefer lawns and gardens to relax and enjoy their food.

Well, since the college is located in South Delhi which is considered to be one of the posh areas of the city, you’ve innumerable hangouts. Community Centre (CC) in New Friends Colony, adorably referred as NFC, is the standard and the most visited place by any student. There are hundreds of food joints from CCD to Barista, Dominos to Pizza Hut, Subway, roadside stalls, chole kulche, and every possible thing you want. In short, when you’re at Jamia, enjoyment ain’t a problem, definitely we mean outside the campus.

As the name suggests, the university has 50% of the seats reserved for Muslim Minority, though there’re more than 70% in every batch. Apart from the religious minority, the crowd is primarily from Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida. Rarely, you see any international student from Iran in the engineering department. Previously, the crowd used to be a bit more rowdy but the recent batches have decent kids from good background and well mannered. It’s friendlier now, thus ragging is rarely seen in the campus or outside. Seniors are helpful as they donate their books to juniors thus developing a healthy junior-senior bond.

Jamia Millia wasn’t very strict in matters of attendance in the past. Since few years, the management has become terribly strict and follow the 75% norm religiously. Students falling short of this mark, straight away gets a year drop though genuine cases are exempted depending upon the severity. Hence, students avoid taking a risk and attend lectures all the time.

Despite of not being affiliated to Delhi University and Indraprastha University, the giants of Delhi colleges, Faculty of Engineering and Technology is definitely one of the good institutions in the city. Probably the lowest engineering fees in any college within the country, Jamia is certainly a good bet if crowd and strictness can be tolerated. And considering the ROI, you should take this college without thinking twice.
