Students believe the faculty could have been better as half of the lecturers are inexperienced yet arrogant. Some SMECians claim that lab assistants are worse causing unnecessary trouble and chaos even for minor mistakes. Senior professors are said to be much better, giving students hope to learn something.

The campus is unusually long and it takes a 3-4 minute walk to reach the main block from the gate as you pass through the football fields, basketball courts, a canteen, lawns and a coffee kiosk on the way. Academic facilities are well maintained and so are the sports amenities. Except for the lack of Wi-Fi there's nothing really lacking at St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC) as far as infrastructure is concerned.

St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC) provides great opportunities to students who managed to stay clear of any backlogs throughout their course. Companies like Infosys, Wipro and Cognizant are major recruiters followed by IBM and L&T Infotech. On an average, over 30% of the students are offered jobs on campus with the CSE department recording more than 50% placements. ECE and IT, too, offer good prospects.

St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC) is a 20-minute walk from Medchal Road near Kompally in extreme north-Hyderabad where civilization just begins to get scantier. While numerous RTC buses in the 229 series ply along the Medchal Road, only one bus (route no. 227) comes right in and passes by the college gates. Probably why more than half the students have opted for the college bus services, despite the higher costs (Rs. 15,000 per year). However, accessibility is not bad as share-autos are readily available from the main road, if you miss the bus sometime.

Amongst some of the bizarre observations we made in Hyderabad was the canteen of St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC). It's divided into separate sections for girls and boys! "It's not strictly followed though" claims a third year student "we all sit together" hoping we'd believe him. Food served is decent and chicken curry with paratha is the most popular item.

Cineplanet, 90 degrees, Runway 9 provide great scope for entertainment, adventure and a variety of food & drinks. None of them are more than 5 kms away, so you can expect great fun with friends.

Being the closest engineering college in this area, St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC) is full of students from Hyderabad. People are friendly, united and share the same woes of having to attend uninteresting lectures because of the strict rules. Girls to boys ratio is a healthy one too.

A week-long technofest is celebrated at St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC). 4-days of technical events and 2 days of cultural events in this so-called 'National-Level' festival fail to attract students from any of the surrounding colleges. SMECians have a good time though.

St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC) has laid down strict rules for attendance discipline. Some of them are as follows:
1. Over 75% attendance is mandatory and those failing to do so have to shell out fines ranging between Rs. 300-500 apart from calling their parents if necessary. Those with extremely low attendance may also be detained.
2. Students are not allowed to enter the campus once lectures have begun for the day and can neither leave till the end of the day unless genuine reasons supported by the required permissions from the head of department are produced.
3. Students should not linger in the campus during lecture hours and anyone found doing so is sent back to class or to the principal.

Except for some intolerable teachers and a strict college environment, St. Martin's Engineering College (SMEC) doesn't disappoint. It can be one of the top choices when you're considering engineering colleges on this end of Hyderabad.
