The faculties are all extremely qualified with almost all doctors and masters, but degrees and qualifications, do not always make up for a great teacher and so is the case here. Some junior faculties fail to please the students too. A few subjects are taken by visiting faculties; and they are excellent. The visiting faculties are retired deans from other universities, or professionals from the industry. Assignments given at the college are interesting, and provide practical exposure about concepts the students learn. It includes field work related to subjects of the different years, where students have to survey upcoming structure or existing colonies and generate a report of their study. Mentors (from the faculty) are assigned to students, and they are very approachable and help students with all their issues.
Colloquiums are conducted in the seminar halls with speakers coming from Germany, and other prominent figures from the country also. Generally these are not a part of the syllabus, but are related and interesting, so people attend with zeal.

In the year 2008, JNTU split and JNAFAU was formed along with 3 other universities. Thus JNAFAU became the headquarters of affiliated colleges in Andhra Pradesh, and the constituent colleges, that are on campus, i.e. School of Planning and Architecture and College of Fine Arts. Although the university does not have a sprawling campus, the infrastructure is quite sufficient to accommodate all the departments of the schools, and the administration of the university. And now the students say it does deserve to be a separate university, and is indeed doing very well. In the campus and even as you enter the building you get an air of it not being just a typical college. There are installations and pieces setup around that have been created at the institutions, and you do realize that this place is bubbling with creativity of some sorts. The studio spaces for the students are excellent, with an arrangement such that the classrooms are a part of the studio. The studios are planned well, and are naturally ventilated. Classes are equipped with projectors and are maintained well. The seminar halls are air-conditioned and well furnished, and that’s where seminars and international conference are conducted. More than one half of a floor is dedicated to the library, and consists of most volumes students of different disciplines at the college need. It goes without saying that the library is planned excellently, and there’s enough room for the books and the boys (and girls too). An indoor sports room is also nice, and students spend time there too. For internet access, there’s campus Wi-Fi available and the speed is also decent, and work never gets stalled.

There are a couple of internship opportunities knit into the system or rather the syllabus, so that students are exposed to how things work beyond books, and drawings. An optional internship after the 6th semester and many try and get into one through their own contacts, or with the help of seniors. There’s also an exchange program opportunity for those who score above 90% or so. After the 8th semester is a compulsory internship, which again the students manage themselves and in the areas they are most interested.
Placements are not what most people rely on from the college. Of course the college does have campus placements, but many have their plans ready. Some start their private practice, whereas some wish to pursue specialization in a focused field. So build a portfolio while working in the college, and keep yourself ready to face the real world, once out of the college. Finding a job will not be a big issue. Also many ‘planning’ students consider taking up government sector jobs.

Located in Masab Tank area of Hyderabad, SPA is absolutely in the heart of the city and connectivity is superb. Another popular landmark is Mahavir Hospital that’s right across the college campus. With Banjara Hills just around the corner, and Ladki Ka Pul MMTS railway station just about a kilometer away, connectivity to the college is no issue. RTC buses that get you here are 49M, 5K, 6H, 6K, 127, 113M, 156, and the buses are frequent. Yet about 40% of the students travel to the college by their own vehicles.

The college provides a hostel for Boys, which is not on campus but in Abids. For Rs.500/month, the facilities are good, the rooms are nice, and internet is also available. Just that they don’t provide for food, which students have to manage themselves. Sadly, there is no girls’ hostel provided by the college.

Now after some issues, and shifting, what is left is a small garage kind of a canteen. But do not judge the canteen by the size just that people have to sit outside the canteen which is not a big deal. Food smells good, and everything is served hot and fresh. Tiffins in the morning are almost a tradition, and everyone likes it. Later there is Veg. Biryani, Sambhar Rice, and other packet foods. Stuff here is reasonably priced, but the quality has improved greatly compared to last year.

Banjara Hills is just around the corner, and you can find a multitude of options to spend your free time with friends. There’s every possible food joint from restaurants like Subway and McDonalds to lots of other smaller places serving superb food. There are malls and theatres to just roam around; GVK One, The City Centre and a couple more. There are a couple of popular places in Shanti Nagar, there’s a Barista outlet, there’s CCD, Baskin Robins. Students generally do not ever need to go far to have fun. All that Hyderabad has to offer is around in Banjara Hills.

Since the SPA is considered a top college for architecture in Andhra Pradesh, so students join just by the name, and are also content once here. About 70% of the students are locals from in and around the city, the rest are from different parts of the state.  The crowd overall is very active and lively. The ratio of girls to boys is about the same, and at times may be girls outnumber the guys, but never the other way. The crowd is friendly and mixing, and the interaction increases much more during project work.

“Manasara” is the annual festival of SPA, which is a 4 day long fiesta. The festival includes cultural events, sports events, and all this takes about a month of preparation, which is all managed by the students. Students participate in different capacities in NASA and NOSPLAN for Architecture and Planning students respectively.

Top Attendance Reviews ALL Attendance REVIEWS

To be eligible to take the semester exams, you need to maintain at least 65% attendance, and even at 64.9% the college will not think twice to detain you. Ideally it should be keeping 75%, but up to 65% you can be considered with a condonation fine of about Rs.2,000 to Rs.2,500. Mostly students themselves manage their attendance above 70%, but yet about 4-5 students every year get detained. The college does not follow a closed gate system, and there is complete freedom when it comes to the time a student spends in the campus. No dress codes, students are also allowed in shorts but obviously within the limits of decency. Roaming and chilling around the campus is okay, and sipping a coffee in the studios is also cool. Basically freedom is a pre-requisite for learning and enhancing creativity of students.

Although the campus doesn’t feel like a typical ‘university’ campus, the students are satisfied with everything provided. The quality of Education and practical exposure is good. The university has a reputation and is constantly getting better over the years. The lack of a campus is an issue, but it no way hampers the learning process, yet at times the students do feel that the campus is congested, and the prospects of a bigger campus is always welcome. The college is certainly a good place for learning, and the location is also such that will make your college life lively.
