Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT), Kondhwa

Location:

Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) is located far from the city, in a remote area - Kondhwa, a far off sub-urban locality of South-West Pune. The accessibility is not good and most of the students either reach there by their own vehicle or stay in the hostel.

The college provides bus facility to and from Swargate, but you need to strictly follow the timings.

Infrastructure:

Since the college was started only recently (in 2002), it has nice infrastructure. The campus is humungous and hosts plenty of other institutes as well. The library is decent, and the labs are excellent. However, there is no playground - only a volleyball court for students to recreate themselves. Hostel with a capacity of 450 students is available. Wireless connectivity in the campus is an add-on

Fees:

Rs. 97,750/ year

Faculty:

On a whole, the faculty is pretty good at Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT). Students save special praise for E&TC, Electronics, Mechanical and Computers professors, saying they are knowledgeable and understandable.

Attendance:

Not very strict. Students are made to write assignments if attendance falls below 75%, but no one is detained unless attendance is EXTREMELY low, that is 5-6%.

Crowd:

Crowd is decent, but few students complain of the uppish crowd having attitude problems. Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) being remotely located attracts a good number of students from semi-urban areas, but since it is part of the same group as VIT, it doesn't lag behind in pulling some city dwellers as well.

Hangouts:

Step outside the campus and you'll first have to pass through a tiny hamlet to get to the main road, which, by the way, still isn't your destination. Students can often be found at City pride at Satara road, McDonalds, or Fame all of which are a good 5-8 kms away. Varsha is popular for smokes, just as Kalubhai is famous for vada pav. Those who hate to travelling much can just chill at the Nescafe outlet inside the campus.

Canteen:

Although the canteen is newly built, it is neither spacious nor very good. Food is average, but the prices are quite high.

Festivals:

Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT), celebrates the Ganpati festival with great zeal. The techfest and cultural fest both are held in Mid February.

Placements:

Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) offers about 60% placements, which is quite respectable. Cognizant is a regular and major recruiter offering a Rs. 3.5 lakh package. Others get into Accenture, Infosys, Wipro, Zensar, Patni all offering the standard 3-3.5 lakh salaries. A few (about 15-20) also get upwards of 4.5 lakhs. Computers and E&TC record nearly 100% placements with Information Technology following up close at about 80%. About half the mechanical people get jobs, while civil being the first year recorded poor placements.

College has the worst internet lab ever, very slow internet and slower PCs. It has a playground for recreation, and also table tennis and carrom. The college hosts its festival named 'perception'. The review is correct regarding other points. Overall, it's a good college......
