Trivia to why gate score is used for PSU

From the year 2010, when aptitude test was introduced in GATE, the exam pattern became very much similar to the recruitment tests conducted by a lot of PSUs with aptitude and recruitment component. Hence, IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.) was the first PSU to come out with its recruitment notification, stating that GATE 2011 score will be considered for short listing.

This was followed by four more PSU's -BHEL, NTPC, PowerGrid and HECL- in 2011, and they accepted GATE 2012 scores. The positions and designations offered by these companies are Executive Trainee, Engineer Trainee, Graduate Engineer, Graduate Apprentice Engineer, Probationary Officer etc. with average starting CTC (Cost To Company) of 7-8 lakhs per annum which is almost at par with renowned B-schools of the country.
