Three to four faculties are excellent for all the departments. They are intelligent, have immense knowledge and are ready to face any kind of doubts. Senior professors are like retired citizens who teach for passion (and not for money), thus it’s definitely worth attending their lectures. Along with these senior lecturers, there are alot of freshers who have completed their M.Tech and are teaching at Amrita University. Faculty for the Computer department is good. Principal belongs to the mechanical branch and thus, its equally top notch. The teaching staff is still better compared to the local colleges but students feel there should be better faculty for all the possible subjects.

Amrita University campus encloses a main building, a new building under construction, a hostel right opposite the main gate, a couple of general stores and a beautiful green garden. Comfortable single seater benches, decent classrooms without an air conditioner and well equipped library with truckload of books of latest edition are the facilities offered by this university. The campus is enabled with wifi connectivity and huge parking space for both staff and students. Labs are air conditioned but they are hardly switched on. Moreover, instruments are absolutely obsolete and all they do is repair them regularly rather than buying new ones.

Infosys and TCS are the mass recruiters at the Amrita School of Engineering offering Rs. 3 lakhs per annum and offering jobs to almost 150 students every year. Students who are eligible will be placed for sure. There are hardly any core companies that visit the college. Tally Management offered Rs. 6.4 lakhs per annum while Microsoft recruited a couple of students. Student has to put in a lot of effort to get to the placement rounds. One has to strive hard and maintain his/her CGPA to atleast 6 on 10 at any cost. Amrita is not the right place for an ideal satisfactory job but that’s the case with all the engineering colleges in the country barring the IIT's, NIT's and a couple of reputed ones.

Amrita University is located around 3 kilometres off Sarjapura Road in Kasavanahalli. The university is pretty famous all over Bangalore especially south of the city. BMTC buses 340L, 341B, 342 run with an excellent frequency on the Sarjapura Road. After that one has to board a rickshaw from the main road to the college which is cumbersome and pretty expensive as well. Some prefer to commute by bikes while most of them prefer bus. Another landmark would be the Electronic City which is a couple of kilometres from the college. The college provides bus facility for students. In short, accessibility isn't so difficult despite being so far from the main city.

Amrita provides hostel facility for both boys and girls but not at all upto the mark. Mess food is tasteless, lacks variety and offers the typical South Indian food, all day and night. Four students share a room/flat which has two bunk beds, a couple of study tables, and two cupboards. There are two washrooms on every floor. During summer, there is a terrible water problem. Hostel regulations are pretty strict. A student has to be in the hostel premises around 7 pm else he/she has to stay outside and come the next day. Reporting to the hostel warden is compulsory. Most of the hostelites feel that it’s very strict and feels like a jail.

Amrita’s canteen is pretty spacious and economical but offers and average quality of food. Taste and variety is what it lacks in. Still, fried rice and noodles are the hot favourite items of this canteen.

As the day gets over around 4.30 and students have to rush back to the hostel by 7, far hangouts which are better places than the nearby locality is very difficult. Hence students are seen chilling at roadside food stalls which are pretty cheap and offers a good variety. Central Mall, Total Mall, McDonalds and CCD are the other hangout places next to the college. LACASA restaurant/bar is a hot favourite place for all the alcohol lovers as it offers chilled and mouth-watering beers. For those who don't mind travelling a few kilometers, Kormangala is the ultimate hangout! Yes, you see alot of happening faces out there.

Almost 70% to 80% of the students come from Andhra Pradesh. Owing to the regional problems, there are hardly any good engineering colleges in AP and thus you see a majority lot admitting to Amrita University. Moreover the university is pretty close to the Andhra border. Boys to girls’ ratio would be 7:3. Girls are seen mingling with boys and thus a healthy friendly atmosphere is seen at the college. Hostel life, too, is decent. Students balance their academic and non academic activities very well.

Amrita School of Engineering has a terribly strict attendance pattern. Students have to maintain 80% compulsorily with a 10% relaxation only for medical and unavoidable reasons, failing which students get a KT, get a semester drop and in worst cases are detained as well. Students are pretty scared with the management rules and thus hardly take a chance.
Students have to follow a dress code at Amrita University. Peach colour checks shirt and a similar colour pant. Girls have to wear a jacket as well. Every student has around 2 to 3 pairs of uniform.

Amrita University focuses more on academics and gives terribly less importance to extra curricular activities. If you wish to 'enjoy' your four years of engineering, this is certainly not the right place. Extremely strict attendance pattern, average placements, good teachers, and ‘jail-like’ hostel regulations is what’s waiting for you at Amrita University, Bangalore.
Note: Amrita University aka Amreeta Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a Deemed University. It has a separate entrance examination and admission process. It is NOT under VTU or Bangalore University.
